Spring Has Sprung!

The first grade music program went off without a hitch, as they say. The students sang exceptionally well, and focused on the leader like professionals. I am so looking forward to hearing them next year as second graders. The second grade concerts typically take place in November.

Second graders, meanwhile, have been using the xylophones to become familiar with the eight-note scale and to play simple songs such as Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, Are You Sleeping? and Kye Kye Kule. After spring break, they will explore some new rhythms in written form, and reinforce their knowledge of the musical scale. Simple sight-singing using songs that focus on do, re, mi, so and la is the goal by the end of the year.

First graders will be following along the same lines, exploring the so and mi steps of the scale and reading basic rhythms, while listening, moving and playing to music. Kindergarteners continue to distinguish high and low, loud and soft, fast and slow, steady beat and no steady beat, as they listen, move and play to music.
