Second Grade Music Program Coming Soon! NOVEMBER 10TH AT 7:00 PM

This week I will send home another copy of the lyrics for our upcoming music program. If you are one of those people who never loses anything, feel free to send them back. I am in the process of learning how to upload MP3 files onto my blog spot page. If you see them here, that means I succeeded. The recordings are a little rough, made when students were just learning the songs in some cases. But you should be able to hear the melody of each song clearly enough to follow.

Welcome to the Parkside Elementary Music Blog!

I am Betsy Wellings, the kindergarten through second grade music teacher for the Tenino School District. Our district uses the MacMillan

McGraw-Hill "Share the Music" Series, supplemented with teacher-made activities of many kinds.

As a primary level music teacher, my main goal is to ignite an interest and passion for music in my students. I want them to have a sense of empowerment so they may continue to explore and enjoy music as participants, not just as listeners, throughout their lives. I teach them about music, but even more importantly, I have them move to, play, sing and create music. The Share the Music series adheres to the National Content Standards for music, also adopted as the Tenino School District’s standards. Our curriculum is also coordinated with the Washington State learning standards known as EALers.

Kindergarten through second grade students participate musically in December's Winter Sharing assembly. In November, second graders give a musical presentation, and in March, first graders do the same. The students and I prepare for these concerts many weeks in advance, so they are an exciting and enriching experience for all concerned.
